One percent of the Scottish people still speak Scottish Gaelic, the highest number being located in the Outer Hebrides islands off the northwest coast of Scotland. One of those islands is North Uist, the birthplace of Julie Fowlis. Though I don't understand a literal word she sings, I feel her music in my bones and, perhaps, my soul. She's an international treasure.
When You Come
---Maya Angelou
When you come to me, unbidden,
Beckoning me
To long-ago rooms,
Where memories lie.
Offering me, as to a child, an attic,
Gatherings of days too few
Baubles of stolen kisses.
Trinkets of borrowed loves.
Trunks of secret words.
